East Side Rickey

East Side Rickey

A cocktail with a political history?  We’ll drink to drinking through an election year!  The Eastside Rickey was created in the late 1800’s at Shomaker’s bar.  History has it that bartender George Williamson made the drink in collaboration with Colonel Joe Rickey, a Democratic lobbyist.  Williams and Rickey originally made the drink with bourbon, but the spirit was changed to gin a short time later.  The Eastside Rickey has been a D.C. favorite ever since.
