Mint Julep Cocktail

What do you say about a classic?  The Mint Julep became the official drink of the Kentucky Derby in 1938, but rumor has it that Kentucky actually “borrowed” the drink from Virginia where the cocktail was first concocted with spirits like rum and brandy.  Rumor also has it that Virginia farmers used the drink for it’s medicinal properties and maybe even as a morning pick-me- up (for the record, we aren’t opposed to either use).   No matter how or why you enjoy the Mint Julep, we just want you to enjoy…and may luck be with your pony!

INGREDIENTS:
Maker’s Mark Bourbon
Maker’s Mark is made on the principle of the 4 W’s – water, wheat, wood and wax).  The water used to craft this fine spirit comes from calcium-rich Bourbon Lake (yes, that is the real name).  The wheat is red winter wheat that is aged to taste, not time, in fully seasoned barrels.  The result is a smooth, rich bourbon that is perfect for the Julep.

Handmade Simple Syrup
The handmade simple syrup adds a touch of sweetness without overpowering the drink.

Fresh Mint
An ingredient critical to the Julep, the fresh mint add freshness and complexity to the cocktail.
